What We do
The U.S. prison system disappears people from society, effectively dissolving their individuality and erasing their humanity. Teleway 411 works against this insidious practice by traveling through space and time to connect with guests serving sentences in the realm of brick and barbed wire. The Teleway is a vehicle for human connection, providing an outlet for those who have been silenced to share their stories. Our heart-to-heart conversations shed light about the reality of life inside the prison system, directly from those experiencing it.

Why Teleway 411?
Teleway 411 is a project of A.B.O. Comix, an inside-outside collective of artists and activists working towards queer and trans liberation through creative expression. A.B.O. HQ is located at 411 26th in Oakland, between the iconic streets Telegraph and Broadway; it was here that the idea for a podcast featuring longform interviews with our incarcerated collective members was born. The Teleway is much more than a portmanteau of the two street names; it is an interdimensional teleportation system that allows us to make the connections with queer and trans artists in prison that make up our interviews. The Teleway primarily transports information, giving listeners the 411 on life inside prison for our passengers.

Who We Support
Dispatching from the Telegraph and Broadway terminal in Oakland, we transport the stories of queer artists in prison across the portal of time and space.

Teleway 411 is a project of A.B.O. Comix, a collective of creators and activists who work to amplify the voices of LGBTQ prisoners through art. The organization was born when three friends met in a community garden in Oakland, California, to dream and scheme about publishing a showcase of the artistic works of their incarcerated pen pals. A Queer Prisoner’s Comix Anthology, Vol. 1 - a compendium of works in the comics medium by queer and trans artists on the inside - became the first of dozens of publications from the A.B.O. Comix small press. In the nearly six years since the first comix anthology came into the world, the organization has grown to an international network of queer and trans people fighting for collective liberation through art both inside and outside prison.
Our Work
To date, we have donated over $80,000 to individual queer and trans artists who are currently and formerly incarcerated. Teleway 411 is our next big step in sharing the raw, honest stories of these individuals and to gather support for them as they continue to navigate lives impacted by the prison system.

  • We help give a platform to marginalized community members inside prison and a way to express themselves artistically
  • We work closely with incarcerated LGBTQ+ members to develop artwork & provide feedback so that artists can hone their skills
  • We help introduce the public to the plight of queer prisoners
  • We fundraise for and provide financial assistance to our contributors and other LGBTQ+ prisoners in need
  • We create and maintain LGBTQ+ community contact and friendship across prison walls
  • We support LGBTQ+ prisoners to gain knowledge and experience in the publishing/artistic industry
  • We provide artists with credentials for a portfolio and letters of recommendation (for parole boards, etc.)
  • We introduce prisoners to other organizations that may assist them with needs or publish their work
  • We engage with the local community at events (workshops, book and zinefests)
  • We collaborate and work in solidarity with other prisoner advocacy/abolitionist groups
